Red love
From every vein of the heart, blood has been spilled [x2]
everywhere, in every place [x2]
If you look at my walk, it's a walk full of drunkenness [x2]
If you look at my state, it's a calamitous state
For true love is red! [x4]
From every vein of the heart, blood has been spilled [x2]
Who are those people who have suffered wounds,
who have raised the corpse of the heart upon their heads?
Where have they gone after selling their longings?
Today they have returned, ask what they have brought.
Neither have they been withstood by a single love
nor has a single love been withstood by them.
Life was just a pocket full of hopes [x2]
empty as it came, empty it went
What has been gained from the marketplace of love? [x2]
Today you wander with money, having lost your heart
This love too is a move by the enemy
True love is red [x4]
From every vein of the heart, blood has dripped [x2]
When did I say: "Love is not a sin?"
Why did I receive a punishment equal to sin?
You give me wounds and say: "Keep sewing them shut"
After taking my life, you'll say: "Keep living"
Every time love was brought down to the earth
life, I offered it to you as a sacrifice
Love stayed alive on the scaffold, but [x2]
the one who loved, was executed
If this is the limit, we'll cross the limit [x2]
If true love so wishes, we'll die in silence
This is an omen obtained in (earthly) love:
For true love is red! [x4]
From every vein of the heart, blood has been spilled [x2]

About this song

Singers
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Aditi Singh Sharma
Lyrics
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar

Laal Ishq (Hindi: लाल इश्क़, Urdu: لال عِشْق) was created as a theme song for a 2017 Pakistani television drama of the same name, written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and originally sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. In 2024, a new version with beautifully recited parts was sung by the Indian female singer Aditi Singh Sharma.

The song uses three different words to refer to the concept of "love": pyaar, of Sanskrit origin — the most general term —; mohabbat, of Arabic origin, which can also mean "affection" or "earthly, human love"; and ishq, also of Arabic origin but widely used in Persian for the ideal of passionate, all-consuming romantic love. Throughout the song, the lyrics describe characteristics of earthly love (mohabbat), only to emphasize that true romantic love (ishq) is red — bleeding in nature, a love that wounds and consumes the lover.

This song is not to be mistaken with another one, also called Laal Ishq, featured in the 2013 Bollywood film "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela", and performed by Arijit Singh.
