mere maulaa
Touch on each word to display its meaning
duaa meN jab maiN haath uThaauuN
dekhuuN tujhe lakiiroN meN .
sajde meN terii raah bichhaauuN ,
aa bas jaa taqdiiroN meN
When in prayer I raise my hands
I see you in the lines.
In prostration, I lie down in your way,
come at once in my destiny!
nazar jo milii hai
nazar se , xudaayaa ,
huaa paak maiN to
asar se , xudaayaa
[ all stanza x2 ]
If (when) the eye met
with the eye, oh God,
then I become holy
by the effect, oh God
[all stanza x2]
mashhuur terii
inaayat ke rutbe .
merii ruuH kɛhtii hai
sajde meN jhuk ke :
The standing of
your favor is well-known
My soul says,
in prostration, bowing:
duaa tuu hii ,
xudaa tuu hii ,
xataa tuu hii ,
sazaa tuu hii .
jahaaN dekheN merii aaNkheN
vahaaN tuu hii , vahaaN tuu hii
mere maulaa [ x8 ]
You are the prayer,
you are the Lord,
you are the fault,
you are the punishment.
Wherever my eyes look
you are there, you are there
My Lord [x8]
aaGaaz likhaa ,
anjaam likhaa ,
maiN ne saaNsoN pe
teraa naam likhaa .
merii arzii tuu ,
xud-arzii tuu
merii xvaahish tuu ,
merii marzii tuu
Wrote the beginning,
wrote the end,
I wrote your name
on my breaths.
You are my plea,
you are my selfishness,
you are my desire,
you are my wish
mashhuur terii
inaayat ke rutbe .
nazar-e-karam ab
mujh pe bhii kar de
The standing of your favor
is well-known.
Now do a look of mercy
on me, too
duaa tuu hii ,
xudaa tuu hii ,
xataa tuu hii ,
sazaa tuu hii .
jahaaN dekheN merii aaNkheN
vahaaN tuu hii , vahaaN tuu hii
mere maulaa [ x8 ]
You are the prayer,
you are the Lord,
you are the fault,
you are the punishment.
Wherever my eyes look
you are there, you are there
My Lord [x8]
dil meraa namaazii hai teraa ,
maiN teraa huaa , tuu ho meraa .
bin tere
adhuuraa saa maiN huuN ,
aa mujh ko mukammal kar de tuu !
[ repeats last 2 verses ]
My heart is your devotee,
I became yours, you are mine.
Without you,
I am seemingly incomplete,
come and make me complete!
[repeats last 2 verses]
mashhuur terii
inaayat ke rutbe .
nazar-e-karam ab

About this song
mere maulaa (Hindi: मेरे मौला, Urdu: میرے مولا) "My Lord" is the theme song of an Indian TV series called "Razia Sultan", originally aired by &TV.
I know neither the writer nor the interpreter; the lyrics could be from medieval poet Amir Khusro, but the song is in modern, standard Hindustani.
Razia, or Raziya-al-Din, was the first and only female ruler of the Dehli Sultanate, under the Mamluk Dynasty in the XIII century.
In the series, the song is first played when she meets her lover and future emir, Mizra Altunia.
The characters of Razia and Mizra are played by Indian actors Pankhuri Awasthy and Rohit Purohit.
The song has a mystic, probably Sufi ambiance. It plays with the idea of God (or one's spiritual master) as a lover, theme very common in mystic poetry.
There is a similar song on YouTube with the same music and similar lyrics, but sung by a woman from a feminine perspective.
Alas, this interpreter is also unknown.
