alvidaa
Touch on each word to display its meaning
jaane kaise ,
TuuTe rishtoN se
bikhre haiN ye pal ?
Who knows how,
these moments are sprinkled
with broken relationships ?
maano jaise ,
Gam kii palkoN se
chhalke haiN ye pal .
It is as if
these moments were spilled
from eyelashes of sadness.
kyuuN adhuurii ye kahaanii ?
kyuuN adhuuraa ye fasaanaa ?
kyuuN lakiiroN meN iske
alvidaa ?
Why is this tale incomplete?
Why is this romance incomplete?
Why, within its boundaries, is there
a goodbye?
umr bhar kaa saath de jo ,
kyuuN vo hii pyaar ho ?
kyuuN na miT ke jo fanaa ho ,
vo bhii pyaar ho ?
Company that is given lifelong.
why only that would be love?
Why isn't also love,
that which is erased and departed?
na adhuurii ye kahaanii ,
na adhuuraa ye fasaanaa .
mar ke bhii na ham kaheNge
alvidaa .
This tale is not incomplete.
This romance is not incomplete.
Even after dying, we won't say
goodbye.
bairiyaa mere rabbaa ,
kyuuN huaa mere rabbaa ?
yuuN na [ dhaaviiN ],
yuuN na [ dhaaviiN ],
do dilaaN dii ye kahaanii .
Oh my God,
why have you become my enemy?
Do not demolish like this,
do not demolish like this
this story of two hearts.
miT bhii jaauuN , na miTe ,
ye kaisii pyaas hai ?
duuriyoN meN kho ke bhii
tuu mere paas hai .
Which thirst is this,
that doesn't leave when I do?
You are lost in the distance,
but still close to me
kyoNki tuu merii kahaanii ,
kyoNki tuu meraa fasaanaa .
ab kabhii phir na hai kɛhnaa
alvidaa .
Because you are my tale,
because you are my romance.
Now, we don't have to say
goodbye again.
terii yaadoN ko sɛhlaataa huuN /
na kɛhnaa
pal meN ban ke
bikhrtaa huuN /
[ hums ]
jis jahaan meN
kho gaii ho tum /
alvidaa
kyaa nahiiN hai vahaaN
TuuTii tanhaaiyoN kaa Gam ?
I caress your memories /
don't say
One moment I am composed,
then ruined /
[hums]
This world in which,
you became lost /
goodbye
Is there no
sorrow of broken solitudes?
bairiyaa mere rabbaa ,
kyuuN huaa mere rabbaa ?
yuuN na [ dhaaviiN ],
yuuN na [ dhaaviiN ],
do dilaaN dii ye kahaanii .
Oh my God,
why have you become my enemy?
Do not demolish like this,
do not demolish like this
this story of two hearts.
jaane kaise ,
TuuTe rishtoN se
bikhre haiN ye pal / na kɛhnaa
maano jaise
Gam kii palkoN se
chhalke haiN ye pal / alvidaa
Who knows why,
these moments are sprinkled
with broken relationships ? / don't say
It is as if
these moments were spilled
from eyelashes of sadness. / goodbye
kyuuN adhuurii ye kahaanii ? / [ hums ]

alvidaa (Hindi: अलविदा, Urdu: الوِداع) "Goodbye", is a song written by Indian lyricist and screenwriter Niranjan Iyengar.
It was featured in the 2013 Indian spy thriller "D-day". The music was created by the composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (also known as SEL).
In the movie, it is played under tragic circumstances, while an Indian spy (played by actor Arjun Rampal), reminisces his love relationship with a Pakistani prostitute (played by Shruti Haasan).
The song is almost completely written in standard Hindustani, except for some pseudo-Punjabi words in the chorus, added for effect.
For example, the word dhaaviiN is not a real Hindustani word, but a Punjabi-sounding verb in imperative meaning "to pull down, to demolish".
yuuN na dhaaviiN, yuuN na dhaaviiN,
do dilaaN dii yah kahaanii
Do not demolish, do not demolish in such a way
this story of two hearts.
(Similarly, dilaaN and dii are also Punjabi)
The actual movie scenes used as trailer are a little truculent, so I posted another Youtube video showing a static image with lyrics.
The singers are Nikhil D'Souza, Sukhwinder Singh, Shruti Haasan herself, and Loy Mendonsa.
