ai dil hai mushkil (Hindi: ऐ दिल है मुश्किल, Urdu: اے دِل ہے مشکل) "Oh, heart, it is difficult", is a song from a 2016 Indian drama film also called Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
The movie tells the story of Ayan, a singer and a millionaire (played by the Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor), and his eventful love story with Alizeh (played by the Indian actress Anushka Sharma).
The video clip shows how Ayan, melancholic because of his unrequited love, composes and interprets this song. Then, it shows how the song gains popularity.
The song's lyrics were written by the Indian lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. The whole text has religious, mystical overtones; it can be interpreted as adoration to God, or to a beloved one.
The music was composed by the director and composer Pritam Chakraborty (know simply as "Pritam"), and the singer is Arijit Singh, a very famous Indian interpreter who sings in many languages.
