aa jaa sanam madhur chaaNdnii meN ham

aa jaa sanam madhur chaaNdnii meN ham
Touch on each word to display its meaning
aa   jaa   sanam   madhur   chaaNdnii   meN   ham
Come, my love, in the moon’s sweet glow
aa   jaa   sanam
madhur   chaaNdnii   meN   ham   tum   mileN   to
viiraane   meN   bhii   aa   jaaegii   bahaar
jhuumne   lagegaa   aasmaan   [ x2 ]
Come, my love,
In the moon’s sweet glow, if we unite,
even the desert will bloom with spring,
the sky will sway in delight [x2]
kɛhtaa   hai   dil
aur   machltaa   hai   dil
more   saajan   le   chal
mujhe   taaroN   ke   paar
lagtaa   nahiiN   hai   dil   yahaaN   [ x2 ]
The heart pleads,
and restless, it insists:
"Take me, beloved,
beyond the stars."
This place no longer holds my heart [x2]
bhiigii   bhiigii   raat   meN
dil   kaa   daaman   thaam   le
khoii   khoii   zindagii
har   dam   teraa   naam   le
In the damp, whispering night,
hold onto my heart’s trembling edge.
This lost, drifting life
whispers your name with every breath.
chaaNd   kii   bɛhɛkii   nazar
kɛh   rahii   hai   pyaar   kar
zindagii   hai   ek   safar
kaun   jaane   kal   kidhar
 [ full stanza x2 ]
The moon’s intoxicated gaze
urges: "Love now."
Life is but a journey—
who knows where tomorrow goes?
[full stanza x2]
dil   ye   chaahe   aaj   to
baadal   ban   uR   jaauuN   maiN
dulhan   jaisaa   aasmaan
dhartii   par   le   aauuN   maiN
If my heart wills it today,
I’d soar as a cloud,
and like a bride, the sky
I’d bring down to earth.
chaaNd   kaa   Dolaa   saje
dhuum   taaroN   meN   mache
jhuum   ke   duniyaa   kahe
pyaar   meN   do   dil   mile
 [ full stanza x2 ]
The moon’s palanquin gleams,
stars riot in celebration.
The world sways, sighing:
"Two hearts fused in love."
[full stanza x2]
