ye raat yah chaaNdnii phir kahaaN
Touch on each word to display its meaning
Will there ever be again this night, this moonlight?
Will there ever be again this night, this moonlight?
Listen to the heart's tale … …
Moonlit nights, love words, they were lost, who knows where? [x2]
Will there ever be again this night, this moonlight?
Listen to the heart's tale … …
From breaking strings, comes your voice
From a quiet view, I hear your footsteps
The moist breeze, an overflowing cloud, tell your (love) story
For you, embraced in flames, (my) youth is restless
In (my) chest, smoke keeps rising and curling up
Listen to the tale of (my) heart …
Will there ever be again this night, this moonlight?
Listen to the heart's tale …
Lost stories are on the waves' crests (lips),
Gardens of hope have all became desolated
Where shall I know your whereabouts? All destinations are void!
Who knows where did the coming days just depart?
The world of wishes is laid waste
Listen to the heart's tale …! [x3]

ye raat yah chaaNdnii phir kahaaN (Hindi: यह रात यह चाँदनी फिर कहाँ, Urdu: یہ رات یہ چاندنی پِھر کہاں) "Will there ever be again this night, this moonlight?" is a song plated in the 1952 Bollywood film "Jaal".
The song is played repeatedly during the film, picturized by its two romantic leads, "Maria" (Geeta Bali) and "Tony" ( Dev Anand).
The version presented here is the "female" version, sung by Maria while she evokes her relationship with Tony. All stanzas start with the same lines that give the title to the song, as she remembers how they were sung by Tony.
The movie's whole soundtrack (including this song) was composed by S.D. Burman, and the lyricist was Sahir Ludhianvi.
