Touch on each word to display its meaning
Don't Shake off my Arm and Go, Husband
Don't shake off (my) arm and go (in anger), husband
I swear that I will break in tears,
will break in tears …
My wifehood remains obstinate,
if you weren't present, what will I do?
What will I do?
Don't shake off (my) arm and go (in anger), husband
I swear that I will break in tears,
will break in tears …
[ both lines x2 ]
These spread tresses, this blooming garland
This fragrant chunri, this liquor of the heart
[both lines x2]
All of this is for you, darling
Today, I wont let you go,
won't let you go …
Don't shake off (my) arm and go (in anger), husband
I swear that I will break in tears,
will break in tears …
[ both lines x2 ]
I am your loving slave, forever desirous
Only you are my embellishment, darling
[both lines x2]
I will take the dust from your path
and forever apply it in the parting of my hair,
forever apply it …
Don't shake off (my) arm and go (in anger), husband
I swear that I will break in tears,
will break in tears …
[ both lines x2 ]
If you keep averting your eyes from me
then at least listen to my plea
[both lines x2]
Beloved, listen to this plea of mine
I have come at your feet
I will live here, and I die,
and die here …

na jaao saiyaaN chhuRaa ke baiyaaN (Hindi: न जाओ सैयाँ छुड़ा के बैयाँ, Urdu: نہ جاؤ سَیّاں چُھڑا کے بیّاں) "Don't Shake off my Arm and Go, Husband", meaning "don't leave in anger", is a song featured at the 1962 Bollywood film "Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam".
The song is played at a between the movie's protagonist, Chhoti Bahu (played by the actress Meena Kumari, and her husband, Chhote Babu, a "zamindar" or landowner in pre-independence Calcutta (played by the actor Rehman).
During the song, Chhoti Bahu repeatedly tries to lovingly convince her husband not to leave her side. She is aware that her husband is repeatedly unfaithful to her, and over time she becomes her drinking companion in a desperate effort to keep him by her side.
She makes reference to her suhaag, which is a word used to refer to the proud married status of a woman. She names him as her only prized possession, wifehood ornament (siNgaar), and master.
At some point she sings about "applying the dust from his feet into the parting line of her hair". This refers to the tradition among Hindu married women of applying "sindoor" (a vermillion powder cosmetic) to the parting line of their heads, in order to indicate that they are married.
The playback singer was Geeta Dutt.
The music of this and all the rest of the songs in the movie was composed by Hemant Kumar, and the lyricist was Shakeel Badayuni.
