kaaTe na kaTe
kaaTe na kaTe
Touch on each word to display its meaning
It passes with difficulty
Oh, you unaware, what worry is to you
how has become,
this effect (that you have) on me?
I was left bereft, yes, bereft
I am all, entirely for you
Listen, you oppressor,
show at least some mercy!
I will die if you don’t join me
I prepared for you a world of alluring dreams
Don’t torment me this way,
don’t make (my) heart burn
I am entangled in yor love
Let me have a glimpse
Love me one more time
 [ both lines x2 ]
The night passes with difficulty,
beloved, in expectation
[both lines x2]
Alas, alas! I just died in your love, you callous!
Ho, alas! I just died in your love, you callous!
Oh, the night passes with difficulty!
I am anxious. I have this fear …
Listen, ah, beloved: do not forget me!
I squandered every peace, every joy, for you
Day and night [x2]
I remain in your dreams [x2]
You neither come nor go, to whom shall I tell?
Day and night
I remain in your dreams
You neither come nor go
Why did you torment (me)?
You revealed a dream
revealed a dream …
Don’t torment me this way,
don’t make my heart burn
I am entangled in yor love
Let me have a glimpse
Love me one more time
 [ both lines x2 ]
It passes [x2]
It passes with difficulty, the night,
beloved, in expectation
[both lines x2]
Alas, alas! I just died in your love, you callous!
Ho, alas! I just died in your love, you callous!
I just died in your love, you callous!
In your love … [x4]
Don’t torment me this way,
don’t make my heart burn
I am entangled in your love
Let me have a glimpse
Love me one more time
In your love … [x3]

kaaTe na kaTe (Hindi: काटे न कटे, Urdu: کاٹے نہ کٹے) is an expression used in Hindustani language to express that some period of time passes slowly, that it is spent with difficulty.

In Hindustani poetry, the expression "Kaatay na katay ratiyaa" (the night passes with difficulty), is used very often, to indicate the uneasiness of unrequited love.

The lyrics of the song "Kaatay na Katay" were written by the poet Saifuddin Saif, and the music was composed by the musician, composer, and director Nisar Bazmi, both Indo-Pakistanis.

It was featured in the 1972 Pakistani musical drama "Umrao Jaan Ada", in that occasion sung by the Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila.

The video clip is an arrangement that adds some rock and modern ballad parts to this classic song, and it was aired in 2017 during season 10 of Coke Studio Pakistan.

The song expresses the point of view of a woman, so it is interpreted by 3 female Pakistani singers: Humera Arshad for the traditional part, and Aima Baig and Rachel Viccaji for the modern part.

By the end of the song a male singer, (Ali Hamza, from the band Noori), does some humming to provide ambiance.
