havaa havaaii (Hindi:हवा हवाई, Urdu: ہوا ہوائی) "Hawaii WInd" is a song featured originally in the 1987 Bollywood action comedy "Mr. India".
In Hindustani, the word havaaii can mean Hawaii (the Polynesian archipelago) , and can also be used as an adjective meaning "airy, aerial, airborne" or "fake, flimsy". And havaa means "wind, breeze, air", but also, figuratively, it can also mean "wish, desire, soul". So, the song's title lends itself to all kinds of translations.
The song's lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar, and the music was composed by the duo Laxmikant Pyarelal
In the original movie, 'Mr India", the song is picturized by Seema, a young and charming journalist, (played by the legendary actress Sridevi), who finds herself in a situation where she has to perform a singing and dancing show, with exotic/Hawaiian ambiance, instead of the original intended performer, whose name was apparently "Miss Hawa Hawaii". For "Mr India", the playback singer is Kavita Krishnamurti
The song has afterwards been used in several other Bollywood films, among them the 2011 Indian comedy noir film "Shaitan", about a youg woman with mental problems, Amrita (Kalki Koechlin) who becomes friends with a group of aimless and dissolute young people: Dash (Shiv Panditt ), Zubin, K.C (Gulshan Devaiah ), and Tanya (Kirti Kulhari). Together they get into a downward-spiralling situation, and in the meantime, they are also blackmailed by Inspector Malvankar (Rajkummar Rao) a corrupt police officer. For "Shaitan", the playback singer was Suman Sridhar.
