My heart, you tell me this:
which way have you headed?
What haven't you got?
What are you searching for
that what is unsaid, what is unheard?
What is that talk, tell me!
Lover, what did the heart beatings speak with you?
Lover, do not hide it from yourself!

In the life course, in love city [x2]
since someone has come in sight
you think, you ask:
The one there was lack of, is he the one?
Yes, he is very same [x2]
You are a thirsty one and she is river
Why don't you tell (him/her) openly
what is unsaid, what is unheard?
What is that talk, tell me!
Lover, what did the heart beatings speak with you?
Lover, do not hide it from yourself!

Your looks
found ways
but you still ponder this: "should I go or not?"
If life has danced, then
why are your legs in shackles?
Dance crazily to the tune of love
If the headscarf is flying, let it fly!
Why would anyone cause himself to be so thirsty?
That which is unsaid, that which is unheard of
What is that talk, tell me
My lover what do the heartbeats tell you?
My lover do not hide it from yourself

Mitwa (Hindi: मितवा, Urdu: مِتوا), "Dear (intimate) Friend", "Lover", is a song from the 2006 Indian romantic drama film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Never Say Goodbye).

This movie became enormously popular, and ended up being referred to by its acronym, "KANK".

The movie, mostly set in the city of New York, is about a man and a woman ("Dev" and "Maya", played by Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee respectively) who meet from time to time and fall in love with each other, despite both of them having engagements and families.

The video clip summarizes the movie well, because it describes them at those encounters, while they imagine themselves speaking out their feelings and making romantic advances on each other.

The word "mitwa" (mitvā) seems to be common in spoken Hindi, but rarely found in dictionaries. It appears to be a deformation of the Sanskrit word mitrā, meaning "intimate friend". In the movie, the term is well chosen because the protagonists are on the verge of becoming lovers.

The singers in the video clip are the Indian singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan and the Pakistani folk singer Shafqat Amanat Ali; the small female parts, some of them in English, are sung by the Indian jingle and playback singer Caralisa Monteiro, who also helped write them.

The music was composed by the famous Indian composer trio SEL (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy), and the lyrics were written by the Indian poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
