پان میں پودینہ دیکھا،
ناک کا نگینہ دیکھا
چِکنی چنبیلی دیکھا،
چِکنا کمینہ دیکھا
چاند نے [cheater] ہو کے [cheat] کیا تو
سارے تارے بولے [gili gili akhaa]
I saw mint in the betel leaf
I saw the gem of the nose (stud)
I saw a smooth jasmine
I saw a smooth wicked one
The moon became a cheater and cheated,
so all the stars said: "gili gili akhaa"

میری بات، تیری بات، زِیادہ باتیں بُری بات
تھالی میں کٹورا لے کے، آلو بھات، [murī] بھات
میرے پیچھے کِسی نے [repeat] کیا تو
سالا میں نے تیرے مُنہ پہ مارا مُکّا
My talk, your talk, many words are a bad thing,
Having taken a bowl in a platter, potato-rice, muri-rice,
If anyone repeated after me then
darn, I would have punched you in the face!

اِس پہ بھُوت کوئی چڑھا ہے،
ٹھہرنا جانے نہ
اب تو کیا بُرا کیا بھلا ہے
فَرْق پہچاننے نہ
ضِد پکڑ کے کھڑا ہے کمبخت
چھوڑنا جانے نہ
Some spirit has risen over it,
doesn't know how to stop
Now it doesn't recognize the difference
between what is good, what is bad.
Holding to stubbornness, the unfortunate is moored,
doesn't know how to let go

ہوا میں [Havanna] دیکھا،
ڈَھمْکا فُلانَہ دیکھا
سِنگھ کا سِنگھاڑا کھا کے،
شیر کا غُرّانا دیکھا
پوری دُنیا کا گول گول چکّر لے کے
میں نے دُنیا کو مارا دھکّا
I've seen Havana from the air
I've seen this and that
After eating the singhada of a lion
I saw the lion roar
After touring the whole round, round world,
I pushed the world

رائی کے پہاڑ پر تِین [foot] [Liliput]
میرے پیچھے کِسی نے [repeat] کیا تو
سالا میں نے تیرے مُنہ پہ مارا مُکّا
[Hey, Bollywood, Hollywood, very very jolly-good]
On a mountain of mustard seeds, I saw 3-foot Lilliput
If anyone repeats after me then
I'll punch that rascal in the face

چھوڑنا جانے نہ
It doesn't know how to turn itself away
from one-way luxuriousness
because it doesn't know how to cover himself
with a causeless blanket of shame
Holding to stubbornness, the unfortunate is moored,
doesn't know how to let go

Today all, the moon, the stars,
have become disco lights
after burning, being extinguished, and calling to us,
they were saying: Party all night!

It doesn't know how to break
the relationship with pointless inclinations
It doesn't know how to attach itself
with the worries of tomorrow
Holding to stubbornness, the unfortunate is moored,
doesn't let go, ha ha

Badtameez Dil (Hindi: बदतमीज़ दिल, Urdu: بدتمیز دِل) "Mannerless Heart" is a song from the 2013 Indian romantic drama "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani".

The song and video clip happen in the setting of a wedding party, where 4 long time friends get reacquainted after several years.

One of the friends is the party entertainer and male protagonist, Kabir "Bunny" Thapar (played by the Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor).
The couple being married are his lifetime friends Aditi and Taran (played by Kalki Koechlin and Kunaal Roy Kapoor respectively).

Also attending the party is the fourth friend and female protagonist, Naina Talwar (played by the Indian actress Deepika Padukone). Naina and Bunny had been in love years ago, but life took them to different paths afterwards.
The party grows inceasily reckless as the song progresses, and during it, Naina and Bunny reignite their love.

The lyrics talk about a heart that can't control itself. A big part of the lyrics, especially at the beginning, is just gibberish, a collection of phrases put together in rapid succession just to provide a quick, high-energy start. (This was admitted by the lyricist himself, Amitabh Bhattacharya).

Some of the phrases used are:
  • gili gili akhaa this could be translated as "wet, wet eyes", but it probably means nothing. It has been included as a tribute to a very famous 1972 song interpreted by Kishore Kumar also called "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (This Youth is Crazy), like this film's title.
  • ḍhamkā-fulānā is an expression meaning "this and that, so and so, trivial, miscellaneous, unimportant things". In the song is quickly pronounced as something like ḍhimkā-falānā. The second word should be pronounced carefully because fulānā means an undetermined person or thing, but falānāh means "penis" in Urdu. It can also be fulānā-ḍhamkā, and the spelling falāṇā is valid in Punjabi.
  • "siṁh kā siṁghāṛā khā kē" means "after eating the singhada of a lion" (the singhada is a species of aquatic edible plant also called "water caltrop"). Here the author is just playing with the similar sounds of "siṁh" (lion) and siṁghāṛā (the singhada plant).
  • rāī kē pahāṛ par tīn [foot] [Liliput] means "a 3-footed Lilliputian over a hill of mustard seeds". Mustard seeds are known for being small, and "Lilliput" refers to the mythical land populated by diminutive individuals, described in the tale "Gulliver's Travels", by the Anglo-Irish writer Jonathan Swift
  • ciknī camēlī and ciknā kamīnā are "a smooth (or oily, or polished) jasmine" and "a smooth wicked one", respectively, but it might simply refer to a woman and a man.
  • ālū bhāt, [murī] bhāt mean potato-rice and "muri" (Bengali typical puffed platter) rice.

The wedding scene was filmed a the Overoi Udaivillas luxury hotel in Rajastan, India.

The playback singers are Benny Dayal for the male parts, and Shefali Alvares for the female parts.
The music was composed by Pritam, and the lyrics, as mentioned, were written by the Indian lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya).
