For you

For you,
I have lived
lips sewn.
00 :44
tērē liyē,
ham haiṁ jiē,
har ām̐sū piē
For you
I have lived
all tears swallowed.

tērē liyē, tērē liyē
In the hearth, however,
continue burning
the lamps of desire
for you, for you …

tērē liyē,
ham haiṁ jiē,

For you
I have lived
all tears swallowed.
For you,
I have lived
lips sewn.

In the hearth, however,

Life has brought with it
the chronicle of days past [x2]
Countless memories

Without asking, I received
so many answers!
Look at what I had desired
and what I have received.

What (can) I say?
What kind of malice
the world bore to me? [x2]
There was a command
for me to live,
but without you.

How ignorant are, those who say
that you are a stranger to me.
How many injustices, beloved,
people did on us!

Tere Liye (Hindi: तेरे लिये, Urdu: تیرے لئے) "For You", "For Your Sake, is the final theme song of 2004 Indian movie drama "Veer-Zaara".

In this movie, Veer, an Indian Air Force officer, (played by Shar Ruh Khan) and a Pakistani girl, Zaara (Preity Zinta) fall in love; but they are forcibly separated.
Then he is unjustly sent to jail, and she is made to believe that he is dead.

The song is played when both aging lovers reunite after his many years of imprisonment.

The music was composed by legendary Indian composer Madan Mohar, and the lyrics were written by the poet and screenplay writer Javed Akhtar.
Indian playback singers Lata Mangeshkar and Roop Kumar Rathod do the feminine and masculine voices, respectively.
