Keep the taste of my remembrance on (your) tongue

In the coffers of your heart, keep my good deeds
Also, you keep my salutation in letters, telegrams

Having kept (his) heart's illusion underneath your pillow,
the hermit, the hermit of the cotton robe, covered himself and went away

Channa Mereya (Gurmukhi: ਚੰਨਾ ਮੇਰਿਆ, Shahmukhi and Urdu: چنّا میریا, Hindi: चन्ना मेरेया) is a song from the 2016 Indian romantic movie drama "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" (Oh, heart, it is difficult!).
The title of the song is in Punjabi, and it consists of 2 words:
- channā, vocative of cnan, "moon"
- mēriyā, vocative of mērā, "my, mine"
The vocative is a case used in inflected languages such as Punjabi for addressing or appealing to others, therefore the title means
"Oh, My Moon!"
This song talks about the sense of renouncement and resignation to unrequited love.
In the movie, the song is played on occasions where the main male protagonist, a singer called Ayan (interpreted by the Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor) claims to give up his love for the female protagonist, Alizeh (played by the Indian actress Anushka Sharma).
In the movie, the actual singer is the famous Indian interpreter Arijit Singh, but this song was then sung by many other artists. Different versions of this song have won several music and TV awards on their own merit.
The lyrics were written by the Indian lyricist of Bengali origin Amitabh Bhattacharya, and the music was composed by the director and musician Pritam Chakraborty ("Pritam").
