Alvida

alvidā
Goodbye
00 :13
jānē kaisē,
ṭūṭē riśtōṁ
bikhrē haiṁ  pal?
Who knows how,
these moments are sprinkled
with broken relationships ?
00 :26
mānō jaisē,
ġam  palkōṁ
chalkē haiṁ  pal
It is as if
these moments were spilled
from eyelashes of sadness.
00 :37
kyūm̐ adhūrī yah kahānī?
kyūm̐ adhūrā yah fasānā?
kyūm̐ lakīrōṁ mēṁ iskē
alvidā?
Why is this tale incomplete?
Why is this romance incomplete?
Why, within its boundaries, is there
a goodbye?
01 :04
umr bhar  sāth  ,
kyūm̐ vah  pyār ?
kyūm̐ na miṭ   fanā ,
vah bhī pyār ?
Company that is given lifelong.
why only that would be love?
Why isn't also love,
that which is erased and departed?
01 :29
na adhūrī yah kahānī,
na adhūrā yah fasānā.
mar  bhī na ham kahēṁgē
alvidā
This tale is not incomplete.
This romance is not incomplete.
Even after dying, we won't say
goodbye.
01 :54
bairiyā mērē rabbā,
kyūm̐ huā mērē rabbā?
yūm̐ na dhāvīṁ,
yūm̐ na dhāvīṁ,
 dilām̐  yah kahānī
Oh my God,
why have you become my enemy?
Do not demolish like this,
do not demolish like this
this story of two hearts.
02 :21
miṭ bhī jāūm̐, na miṭē,
yah kaisī pyās hai?
dūriyōṁ mēṁ khō  bhī
 mērē pās hai
Which thirst is this,
that doesn't leave when I do?
You are lost in the distance,
but still close to me
02 :45
kyōṁki  mērī kahānī,
kyōṁki  mērā fasānā.
ab kabhī phir na hai kahnā
alvidā
Because you are my tale,
because you are my romance.
Now, we don't have to say
goodbye again.
03 :18
tērī yādōṁ  sahlātā hūm̐ /
na kahnā
pal mēṁ ban
bikhrtā hūm̐ /
[hums]
jis jahān mēṁ
khō gaī  tum /
alvidā
kyā nahīṁ hai vahām̐
ṭūṭī tanhāiyōṁ  ġam?
I caress your memories /
don't say
One moment I am composed,
then ruined /
[hums]
This world in which,
you became lost /
goodbye
Is there no
sorrow of broken solitudes?
03 :46
bairiyā mērē rabbā,
kyūm̐ huā mērē rabbā?
yūm̐ na dhāvīṁ,
yūm̐ na dhāvīṁ,
 dilām̐  yah kahānī
Oh my God,
why have you become my enemy?
Do not demolish like this,
do not demolish like this
this story of two hearts.
04 :13

Alvida (Hindi: अलविदा, Urdu: الوِداع) "Goodbye", is a song written by Indian lyricist and screenwriter Niranjan Iyengar.
It was featured in the 2013 Indian spy thriller "D-day". The music was created by the composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (also known as SEL).

In the movie, it is played under tragic circumstances, while an Indian spy (played by actor Arjun Rampal), reminisces his love relationship with a Pakistani prostitute (played by Shruti Haasan).

The song is almost completely written in standard Hindustani, except for some pseudo-Punjabi words in the chorus, added for effect.

The actual movie scenes used as trailer are a little truculent, so I posted another Youtube video showing a static image with lyrics.

The singers are Nikhil D'Souza, Sukhvinder Singh, Shruti Haasan herself, and Loy Mendonsa.
